"cold" mice live longer

Scientists report that the mice, in which is lowered the temperature of body as a result of genetic mutation, live longer.

The previous studies showed that a decrease in the temperature of body is capable of slowing down aging process and of prolonging life in cold-blooded animals - fishes, worms and flies. But scientists did not know, until now, is it possible to dostich' a similar effect in the birds and the mammals.

Researchers from the California institute Of skrippsa reduced the temperature of body in mice with the aid of the genetic mutations in the cells in the section of the brain, which answers for the regulation of the temperature of body.

Thus, the command of scientists created the mice, the temperature of body of which was below normal. This small change increased the lifetime of animals by 15 percent.

Interestingly, while males lived on the average 12 percent longer, the lifetime of females increased by 20 percent.

These data can soak to the development of the new methods of treating the diseases, connected with the aging, researchers assert.

The preparations, which reduce the temperature of body, can, possibly, replace the application of ice in the surgery, which presents danger because of reduction in the inflow of the blood to the brain
